Fellowship

Most of you will remember this...

A large guy walks into a bar and everyone yells "Norm". This happened each week on the TV show "Cheers". I think the opening song talked about "a place where everyone knows your name".

As I write this I am feeling sad. I should be writing...

A large guy walks into a church and everyone yells "Norm".

Shouldn't every church be "a place where everyone knows your name".

As I write this I know I don't live up to this standard. Will you take a challenge with me? OK, I think it is going to be a couple of challenges, but I think we can handle it.

The next time you go to church, greet people by name and really mean it. Be really happy to see them and let them know it. Let them know you are glad to see them with every fiber of your being. Make them believe you got up this morning, showered and put on deodorant just for them.

The other challenge is to greet the next person you meet the same way.

Proverbs 2:10-11

For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you. Proverbs 2:10-11 NIV

This is a hint at the way God works. This is one of the things that we just can't seem to wrap our heads around. It is like saying 1 + 1 = 4. We are bombarded with images which tell us to "do what feels good" or "every one's doing it". It is in commercials, movies, TV shows, magazines, billboards and on the radio. I heard about a billboard which said not to buy the house you can afford, but to buy the house you love. Where is the wisdom in that? Would that decision be pleasant to any part of you?

I am thinking of running a lost and found ad. "Lost WISDOM - if found please return to human race."
