Proverbs

Some friends and I are reading Proverbs this month. One chapter a day for the month of January. Each day I will put down a little thought from that days reading. Feel free to comment.

Proverbs 1

Natalie got a wagon for Christmas this year. I have enough wisdom to know I needed to start putting it together before Christmas Eve. Remember the joke about directions for putting some toy together at Christmas time, "Put Tab A into Slot B ...". It was almost that bad. It took me two days and some help from Lisa. (P.S. tab A will fit into slot B, but you need a third hand to make it fit.) Proverbs starts out by stating it is a set of directions to live your life. The writer uses 6 or 7 verses to set up the purpose of the Book of Proverbs. The remainder of the chapter is used to tell us where we should get our wisdom and how dumb we are if we try wisdom from anywhere else.
Why are we so pig headed? In the first 7 lines God is telling us here is the answer key to life. It is the ANSWER KEY. God then has to use 26 lines to convince us to use the answer key. God wrote the book and he is giving us the answers to all the questions. Everyone has some reason why they have a better answer than God. "It's too hard. It will be cheaper to live together. If I give 10% to the church, I won't have as much to spend. It's big store they won't miss one little item." I've used some of these and lots of others. What are some of the reasons you have used to follow your plan instead of God's?
