Proverbs 20

Wine makes you mean, beer makes you quarrelsome— a staggering drunk is not much fun. Proverbs 20:1 The Message

This verse seems very straight forward. Drinking alcohol can make you into a mean person. A drunk is no fun to be around. Let us take the alcohol out of the verse. "____ makes you mean, ____ makes you quarrelsome...". Are there other things you could put in these blanks that would make sense in your life? Could your friends or family say "drugs make you mean" ? I think drugs fit well. What about computer games or smoking? What about reading or working? What about talking or over eating?

Could any of these things make you "mean" or "quarrelsome"? Beer and wine are the easy things to see when they start taking a toll on your life. Any action you can think of could be put in these blanks. We always hear about the easy ones; alcohol, porn, over eating, workaholic, smoking. It really could be anything. It could be a specific TV show. It could be a specific person you hang around with.

Is there anything in your life your friends or family wishes you wouldn't do?
