Proverbs 18

A healthy spirit conquers adversity, but what can you do when the spirit is crushed? Proverbs 18:14 The Message

Have you ever been on top of the world and anything you set your hand to turned to gold? You could do no wrong? God was riding shotgun?
I have had some great times in my life. Many times I have felt that I have "conquered adversity". A couple of times I have felt God right next to me. It is usually when I am climbing out of a hole I have dug. We could talk for days about the good and great things in our lives.

But what about the second half of this verse?
What can you do when the spirit is crushed? What can we do? I have known a couple people who have had their spirit crushed. I am always left with a helpless feeling. I just do not know what to do for these people. Anything I try seems to just fizzle. Encouraging words sound empty. Loving gestures seem to fall short. In the end the best I could come up with is to listen, love the person and give it to God.

It still doesn't feel like I am helping, but it is the best I could come up with. How have you tried to help a person with a crushed spirit?
